Starting as a private tutor mainly focused on 11+ exam preparation and GCSE/A Level Maths and Economics exams, I have now worked in a range of different institutions teaching all types of students in Maths and Economics related subjects for over 15 years. I have also recently undertaken exam marking for A Level Maths and Economics papers for UK exam boards.
I have a wealth of knowledge and experience of teaching in different environments with all types of students, having taught in UK state schools, private colleges, university and international language schools where I’ve also has the opportunity to also deliver English ESOL lessons. In general, I have worked with young people in summer camps and Camp America to first year undergraduate students, giving me excellent communication skills and an awareness of how to adapt lesson delivery and style to a wide range of learners.
I have taught A level Economics and GCSE Maths, predominantly providing 1 to 1 and small group classes at a private college. Students often came for help with exam preparation and particular learning desires, so I have many years experience having to be flexible with teaching, and extensive experience preparing students for Maths and Economics exams, covering all main exam UK boards. I am very aware of how to adapt teaching methods and styles to different students and always go out my way to deliver the best lesson according to the students needs. I have also worked with adult learners who were gaining qualifications for work reasons.
With academic qualifications in Economics and a personal interest in business and economics, I always encourage my economics students to apply their learning to real life, and I always aim to make lessons as engaging and realistic as possible. I encourage students to bring their opinions to the sessions to help with deeper learning. My experience teaching Economics to international learners has made me even more aware of the importance of this. I enjoy getting to know my students and trying to use this to enhance lessons and make them more productive for the student.
As a mathematics teacher at a secondary state school, I had a year 7 form group for pastoral care. I gained experience planning and delivering carefully curated mathematics lessons, with a focus on deeper learning and application on maths. Lessons were very much focused on quickly identifying misconceptions and enforcing strong foundational skills. Use of diagrams such as bar modelling, and using physical resources were highly encouraged. I was also in charge of delivering a support program for the high achievers in year 7.
Overall, I enjoy working with young people to help them overcome any academic struggles they are having. It is always extremely rewarding to watch students progress with the help and support I have given them.
