Jacob was very professional while teaching my son in history and English
Teaching Skills
He was particularly good at building my sons confidence in source questions, and essay questions as well. I would say confidence building and a calm, but firm, atmosphere were his main skills.
General
Jacob was a good tutor for the time he taught my son. He was always on time for sessions, provided consistent homework, consistent feedback and always made sure the sessions were done with purpose. He also always made sure to make adjustments to session times when needed.
It was a lovely and fulfilling experience. It got me the grades I wanted in English language. Special shoutout to Jacob for the support in this journey.
I have worked with a number of dyslexic students during my time as a tutor and, as someone who has dyslexia myself, I have developed a strong methodology for working with the condition.
Students with dyslexia generally need to focus on foundational skills. Once these are refined, higher level skills tend to come more easily to them. The tendency for schools to move quickly past the foundational elements of subjects is what, oftentimes, causes the gap between dyslexic students and their peers. This is, at least, what I found in my own education and while teaching.
