Carisbrooke College
Literacy centre manager
Nov 2014 - Sep 2016|United Kingdom
During my role I ran the Literacy department, this involved the smooth running of literacy lessons, intervention, and the library. The department consists of six members of staff and involved weekly meetings, lesson planning, planning finances and conducting staff training. I worked closely with pupils to improve their literacy skills and prepare them for college, apprenticeships or other forms of higher education. Further to my role as literacy centre leader I was a mentor to year 11 students to ensure they received the right guidance and help available.
I helped a student achieve their goal of attaining a grade 8 in English at GCSE. When I first met the student they were working at a level 3 and struggled with language analysis. By creating a safe environment for my student work in built their confidence, I tailored my lessons to suit their own learning styles and combined different teaching methods to build on and enhance the skills they needed to achieve their goal.
